We’ve come up with useful storage tips that will make packing, moving and storing your belongings a whole lot easier!
1. Gather your storage materials
Flying by the seat of your pants is stressful! A well-thought-out plan goes a long way. The more preparation you can do in advance, the better. Identify the items you wish to store, then gather the materials you’ll need to store your valuables. Typical storage items you’ll need include:
- packing tape
- bubble wrap
Sentry Storage Solutions offers high quality and durable storage materials that you can rely on.
2. Properly label your storage boxes
Digging through boxes to find a possession can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. By labeling your boxes according to contents or room, finding things will be a breeze. Just remember to label your cartons on their sides instead of on top so that you’re able to identify them when they’re stacked.
3. Pack your boxes the right way
Lifting heavy boxes is hazardous to your health. Use smaller boxes for heavier items and larger boxes for lighter items. For example, pack books and tools into small cartons; your back will thank you! Remember not to store any flammable, combustible, hazardous or toxic materials. When storing lawn equipment and/or machinery, make sure you empty them of fuel before storing.
4. Choose the right storage unit
It doesn’t make sense to pay for more storage than you need. But at the same time, cramming everything into a unit can make finding things a pain and leaves little room for unplanned belongings that need to be stored. As a result, it’s important to make sure your storage unit size can accommodate your items and also be easily navigable. You should allow room for an aisle that will let you find things quickly and in a hassle-free manner.
5. Making the most of your storage space
Proper storage is all about best utilizing space. When storing furniture, store small items in dresser drawers. Store lawn equipment like shovels, rakes and hoes in trash cans. Stacking tables and dressers top to top will also save space. Make sure the items you’ll need the most are accessible from the front of your storage unit.
